  • DESCRIPTION: This Old Teak Panel is a unique find and a great example of traditional village folk history from the Madura region of Indonesia. Originally a screen on wheels, this panel once decorated the set of a traditional “Wayang Kulit” Shadow Puppet performance. Traveling throughout villages in Java and Madura, the dalang (puppeteer) entertained his audience with his shadow play artistry. Painted in the Madurese style and replete with a pair of dragon serpents and other motifs, this old teak screen has a rustic patina and some of its original color, but faded and aged from decades of use. A piece of cloth would have originally covered the large opening. Makes a one of a kind headboard or unusual art work. Hand crafted by village artisans in Indonesia from Teak wood / original aged patina.
