- DESCRIPTION: This handsome hand carved Dayak Ladder from Kalimantan, the Indonesian side of Borneo, is a great piece for any ethnic art lover. This older tribal ladder was authentically hand carved by the Dayak people from solid Ironwood, a very dense hardwood native to the island of Borneo. The hand carved ladder, would traditionally have been part of a Dayak long house but this piece was most likely carved as tribal art and placed outside. In the spirit of the Dayak tradition, this piece is carved with several frightening faces, meant to ward off evil and protect the family or village from any spiritual harm. It’s a fine example of indigenous ethnic art of the people of Borneo. The Dayak tribal ladder has been mounted on a metal stand for a polished display. Natural organic erosion and patina.
