- DESCRIPTION: This large old trunk from Java has genuine Old World Style and is sure to be a handsome addition to any home. Hand crafted by village artisans in Indonesia using single teak wood boards on 5 sides , (including the top), dove tailed construction throughout and hand crafted moulding at the base. Originally fully painted, (a tradition in some coastal areas of Java and Madura) only remnants of color remain. This teak trunk has been completely restored and reconditioned so its natural patina can take center stage. Original cast iron hardware throughout the piece adds to it’s authentic beauty. Top opens to large interior storage with a compartment on the side for small items – note the hand hewn surface of the interior planks. The lid on the inside compartment also acts as a stand to hold the top open for easier access. This old teak chest makes a gorgeous coffee table or a very special storage chest in front of a bed. Very heavy – Antiqued condition and patina throughout – imperfections are expected.
